We both met Superman that fall.
It rained until first winter snow fell and covered up the sprawl.
He appeared outside the window, plain as breaking day,
A supernatural glow in the stubborn grey.

Snow sat heavy on our minds.
On chairs beneath the window we were searching for a sign.
We rolled that story over, trying to hold on.
By early spring we knew that he was gone.
