lyrics

You can follow the winding Colorado River
These days she rarely reaches to the sea
Siphoned out to sprawling cities and the fields of the Imperial Valley
Fading like the country she helps to feed
She got thirsty in the parched Sonoran Desert
Lying barren underneath relentless sun
So bored and restless in the lecture halls of Arizona
She dropped out and went looking for some fun
She got a taste for the techno beats and XTC
Halter tops and mini skirts well up above her knees
Forgot about the rain, never wondered where the water came from
Where the water came from

In the sun baked streets of old South Tucson
With their lethal mix of anger, fear and guns
Angel followed his family’s demons back and forth across the border
In Nogales he became his father’s son
They danced all night deep in the starry desert
Wordlessly unearthed some common ground
Knocked up in a foothills guest house far from Angel’s checkered history
Met her future in a blurry ultrasound
Her belly swelled behind manufactured levee walls
One last job before summer’s fast approaching squalls
Angel set the meet for the sandy Rillito River wash
Forgot about the rain, never wondered where the water came from
Where the water came from

You can follow the mighty Colorado River
Returning to the source to raise her son
She’s a fragile raging elemental river
Come September she’s the only one
Yeah remember she’s the only one
Just remember she’s the only one
